Easy last-minute Easter table setting: A joke, a question, and some chocolate!

Updated: Mar 23

Easter is a time to celebrate love, family, new beginnings, growth, renewal, joy, hope, and life.

It is the perfect occasion to gather with family, share special moments and make happy memories. Easter is a holiday filled with bright colours and blooming flowers – a time to reflect on the love and joy we have in our lives.

Here is a simple idea for how you can add meaning and laughter to your Easter table setting.

You could also adapt this basic concept for a children’s Easter egg hunt.

Step 1 - Purchase Items

Purchase these items:

  • Plastic Easter surprise eggs (these are the ones that open with nothing inside), enough for one per guest.

  • Mini chocolate Easter eggs, jelly beans, or other sweet treats to go inside the plastic Easter surprise eggs.

Step 2 - Print Silly Easter Jokes

Print out and cut up these silly Easter jokes – enough to put one in every egg.

Q: What do you call a rabbit with fleas?

A: Bugs Bunny!

Q: Why did the Easter egg hide?

A: He was a little chicken!

Q: How does the Easter Bunny stay fit?

A: Egg-xercise!

Q: Why shouldn't you tell an Easter egg a joke?

A: It might crack up!

Q: What did the rabbit say to the carrot?

A: It's been nice gnawing you!

Q: How do rabbits travel around on Easter?

A: On hareplanes!

Q: Why did the Easter Bunny take a big nap?

A: He was egg-shausted!

Q:: What do you call a mischievous egg?

A: A practical yolker.

Q; What’s the Easter Bunny’s favourite type of music?

A: Hip hop.

Q: What do you call a group of rabbits, hopping backwards?

A: A receding hare line.

Q: What is an Easter Bunny’s favorite game to play?

A: Hopscotch!

Q: How does the Easter Bunny keep his hair looking good?

A: With hare spray.

Step 3 - Print Easter Conversation Starters

Print out and cut up these Easter conversation starters to encourage discussion around the table – enough to put one in every egg.

  • Do you or your family have an Easter tradition? If so, what is it and what does it mean? And have your Easter traditions changed over the years?

  • What has been your most memorable Easter celebration?

  • How has someone here today made your Easter extra special?

  • Do you have a favourite or special Easter recipe?

  • What do you think is a meaningful way to celebrate Easter?

  • How do you like to decorate at Easter?

  • Who do you look forward to celebrating Easter with every year and why?

  • What are some of the funniest or most creative ways that you've seen someone celebrate Easter before?

  • If you could give a special shoutout to one person in this room for their role in creating wonderful Easter memories, who would it be and why?

  • What has someone done for you this Easter season (or a recent Easter) to show kindness?

  • What is one of your favorite Easter memories as a child?

  • In what ways do you think the holiday of Easter is important today?

  • What's the best thing about celebrating Easter with friends or family?

Step 4 - Assemble Eggs

Assemble each Easter egg with the following:

  • One silly Easter joke

  • One conversation starter related to Easter

  • Enough mini Easter eggs, jelly beans or other “goodies” to fill up the egg

Place these on everyone’s table setting/plate with a ribbon around the napkin and any other Easter flourish you have planned, and enjoy some extra laughter and meaningful conversation at your Easter brunch, dinner or event.
